Homemade Vanilla Extract

 Recipe for Homemade Vanilla Extract

You can create vanilla extract at home, did you know that? Yes! Did you realize that it just needs TWO basic ingredients—vodka and vanilla beans? This homemade vanilla extract will be ready to give away for the holidays if you get started on a batch soon. Sincerely, this is THE perfect present for the baker or dessert enthusiast in your life.

Vanilla essence is used in almost all dessert and baked product recipes. I am positive that if I received a bottle of homemade vanilla extract for Christmas, I would be ecstatic and would likely want to kiss you 8,000 times. That is what thoughtful presents do for you.

You'll get hugs, thanks, dancing, and applause for this wonderful present.

It also smells wonderful. While children might enjoy their scented pens, adults can spend their days inhaling vanilla extract.

Ingredients

Eight vanilla bean

1 glass vodka

INSTRUCTIONS

Just enough lengthwise slicing to puncture through one side of the vanilla bean.

Put the vanilla beans in a bottle and add enough vodka to thoroughly submerge them. Put a cover on top. Shake the bottle well, then keep it somewhere cool and dark (like a cupboard or your pantry).

For four weeks, shake the bottle every day (I set a note on my calendar every day so I wouldn't forget). You may only shake it around three times each week for the following four weeks. In 8 weeks, vanilla will be ready for use. Before using, shake.
