After using your vanilla beans to manufacture a few batches of vanilla extract, don't throw them away. Vanilla bean powder may be made from the used pods.

There is no waste because every portion of the bean is utilized in this delicious foodstuff. And given how much vanilla now costs, that's a pretty good thing.

What is powdered vanilla bean?

Simply ground vanilla beans make vanilla bean powder. In a nutshell. Vanilla powder uses both the pods and the seeds, unlike many recipes that simply call for the seeds. This enables you to extract all of the taste and aroma from your beans.

This is the method to use if you want a recipe to have a strong vanilla taste. Vanilla extract is just half as strong as vanilla bean powder. And unlike extract, it doesn't bake off.

To get those distinctive vanilla flecks, add them to vanilla buttercream frosting or vanilla ice cream.

If you can't or don't want to ingest alcohol, vanilla bean powder is a wonderful substitute for vanilla extract.

Recipe for Vanilla Bean Powder

Fresh vanilla beans are normally used to produce vanilla bean powder, but before I grind my beans into powder, I like to prepare a few batches of vanilla extract first. It's just my attempt to increase the worth of each bean.

A single bean makes around 1/2 teaspoon of powder. Once you realize that, scaling this formula to meet your needs is simple.

Ingredients:

Coffee beans

Dehydrate the vanilla beans.

Alcohol should have dried out the vanilla beans if you're using them to manufacture vanilla extract. After you remove them from the extract, simply allow them to air-dry for a few days.

Fresh vanilla beans should be baked for an hour at the lowest oven temperature if you're using them. Give them time to cool. Next, check to see if they feel brittle and dry. You will be able to ground your beans more finely the drier they are.

Put your vanilla beans in a coffee/spice grinder and grind them up. They should be pulsed until they resemble a fine powder.

Use an airtight jar to store your handmade vanilla bean powder. Use the product within two to three years for the greatest flavor.

Application of Vanilla Bean Powder

Add your vanilla bean powder to ice cream, icing, coffee, or baked goods. It just takes a sprinkle since a little goes a long way.

Instead of one teaspoon of vanilla extract or one vanilla bean, use 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla powder.
