If you enjoy cooking with fresh mushrooms but regularly end yourself throwing away part of the expensive fresh mushrooms you just bought. Or perhaps you don't utilize them all before they start to spoil.

Alternatively, perhaps you purchased more mushrooms than you required for a dish. You can always have mushrooms on hand for your favorite meals by drying and preserving them.

You can easily and inexpensively preserve your favorite fruits and vegetables by dehydrating fresh produce. A wonderful approach to replenishing your pantry is to dehydrate the food that you often consume and prepare.

WHAT TYPE OF MOLDS

I recently purchased fresh baby Bella mushrooms and fresh white mushrooms from Costco in two enormous pots.

Baby Bella mushrooms are little portabella mushrooms, in case you didn't know. They may be referred to as criminis. Portabella mushrooms are sometimes known as crimini mushrooms.

By dehydration, any edible mushroom may be kept.

PREPARE NEW MUSHROOMS PRIOR TO DRYING

It's simple to prepare fresh mushrooms for drying. Simply give the whole mushrooms a thorough wash with cool running water. Rub any dirt that might be present on any of the mushrooms gently off. Let the mushrooms thoroughly drain.

The mushroom stems should be removed. You may either toss them away, dry them, or compost them. The mushroom stems broke as I tried to slice them. For me, it wasn't time well spent. Additionally, you might cook the mushroom stems and create a vegetable broth.

Slice the entire mushrooms into 14-inch thick slices once the fresh mushrooms have been rinsed and dried.

MASHUPS: HOW TO DRY THEM

Using a food dehydrator to dry mushrooms is among the simplest methods. The right airflow is made possible by a dehydrator's stacking trays, which aids in the speedy and uniform drying of freshly cut mushrooms.

Similar to a food dehydrator, an air fryer has a dehydrating mode that may be used to dry mushrooms. For your particular air fryer, adhere to the manufacturer's instructions.

On a cookie sheet, mushrooms can also be dried in the oven. Oven drying takes more time and demands more concentration.

To ensure that the mushrooms are drying evenly, you will need to check on them more regularly and turn them over more frequently.

Due to the lack of ventilation, drying mushrooms in the oven will also take a lot longer than drying mushrooms in a dehydrator.

Nowadays, several ovens have a dehydrating setting. To dehydrate in your new oven, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

HOW LONG DO YOU NEED A DEHYDRATOR TO DRY FRESH MUSHROOMS?

The thickness of the sliced mushrooms and the temperature of the food dehydrator you are using will determine how long it takes to dry mushrooms in a dehydrator.

Your home's atmosphere will also have an impact. The drying process for the mushrooms may take longer if you reside in a region with significant humidity.

The dehydrator will take longer to dry mushrooms cut into thicker pieces.

Fresh mushrooms should be cut into 1/4- to 1/2-inch pieces.

WHEN THE MUSHROOMS ARE DONE, HOW DO YOU KNOW?

When bent in half, dried mushrooms should shatter into pieces and be utterly brittle. Mushrooms that are rubbery are not dried. Dry them out till they are brittle.

STORAGE METHODS FOR DRIED MUSHROOMS

Make sure that all of the dehydrated mushroom pieces have been properly dried before storing them. One dried mushroom piece with even a trace of moisture can destroy the entire container and encourage the growth of mold. You will need to throw away the entire jar of dried mushrooms if any mold has developed.

HOW TO USE DEHYDRATED MUSHROOMS IN COOKING

Pouring warm water over the dry mushrooms in a dish can instantly rehydrate dried mushrooms. The dried mushrooms will soak up the water and revert to their original state of freshness. Save the water and flavor other dishes with it.

You may add the dried, sliced mushrooms right away to a soup recipe. They'll replenish their volume by absorbing part of the soup's liquid.

Remember that the dried mushrooms have diminished to half their former size. You must rehydrate 1/2 cup of dried mushroom slices if your recipe calls for 1 cup of mushrooms.

PERIOD OF DEHYDRATION OF MUSHROOMS

Dried mushrooms may be stored properly for six months to a year after being dehydrated. They can last for many years if vacuum sealed.
